Barrie Kosky is one of today's most internationally sought - after stage directors, presenting productions worldwide.From 2012 to 2022, he served as Intendant and Chefregisseur of the Komische Oper Berlin, which was voted "Opera House of the Year" by Opernwelt magazine after his first season. Kosky's eclectic programming included opera, musical theatre, and Weimar - era operetta.
At the Komische Oper Berlin, Kosky's notable works included The Magic Flute(co-directed with 1927), The Monteverdi Trilogy, Ball at the Savoy, Eugene Onegin, Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Rigoletto, La Belle Hélène, Moses und Aron, La bohème, Rusalka, Le Grand Macabre, West Side Story, Pelléas et Mélisande, Semele, The Bassarids, Die Perlen von Cleopatra, Anatevka, and Candide.In 2022, to mark the end of his transformative tenure at the Komische Oper Berlin, Kosky directed and staged an “All - Singing, All - Dancing Yiddish Revue.”
Kosky has directed productions for Bayerische Staatsoper, Salzburg Festival, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Festival Aix en Provence, Oper Frankfurt, Opera Zurich, Opéra National de Paris, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Los Angeles Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, Gran Liceu Barcelona, Vienna Staatsoper, and many more.He has received numerous awards, including the Olivier Award for Best New Opera Production and Best Director at the 2014 International Opera Awards.
In the 2023/24 season, Kosky returned to the Komische Oper Berlin as a guest and directed new productions, including Die Fledermaus for Bayerische Staatsoper and Die Lustige Witwe for Opera Zurich. He also embarked on a new cycle of Wagner's Ring at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
