Evelyn Krape is a Melbourne-based actor, director and currently the Artistic Director of the Kadimah Yiddish Theatre (KYT). She was a founding member of the Australian Performing Group (APG) at the Pram Factory - that hotbed of revolution and feminism! Previous notable performances with Melbourne Theatre Company include A Floating World, Romeo and Juliet, As You Like It and most recently, the highly successful seasons of Bloom and A Very Jewish Christmas Carol. Evelyn has received multiple prestigious awards, such as Best Actress for her role as Nellie Melba in A Toast to Melba (APG) and the Green Room Award for Best Actress in Ginger at the Playbox. She also shared the Best Actress Award at Tropfest 2019. In recent years, Evelyn starred in Melbourne Shakespeare Company's King Lear.
The Pram Factory 's commitment to Australian culture, language and stories, has informed her theatrical world at the KYT. The commitment to Yiddish and especially Australian, Jewish stories is important for its unique contribution to the Australian, theatrical landscape. Her remarkable performance in KYT's Yentl at Arts Centre Melbourne garnered a Green Room Award nomination. In 2023, she directed KYT's captivating YIDDISH DIVAS: Into the Red Tent and appeared in a return season of Yentl at the Malthouse. This production will be performed at the Sydney Opera House later in 2024.
