Sveta Kundish, born in Ukraine in 1982 and currently based in Germany, is a versatile artist renowned for her expertise in Yiddish music and cantorial work. She earned a B.A. in Musicology from Tel Aviv University in 2007, followed by vocal studies at the Prayner Konservatorium in Vienna.
In 2012, Kundish delved into the Cantorial Department of the Abraham Geiger Kolleg in Berlin, marking her graduation in 2017 and subsequently becoming the first female cantor in the history of the Jewish Communities of Braunschweig in Lower Saxony. As a soloist, Kundish has graced stages throughout Europe, performing regularly with Patrick Farrell, Alan Bern, the Trickster Orchestra, The Ghetto Song Project, Lucidarium Ensemble, and Nesiya, among other renowned ensembles. Notably, since 2018, Kundish has expanded her artistic endeavors, venturing into film with her on-screen portrayal of the singer Rushka in the Hollywood film production “The Survivor”, directed by Oscar-winning director Barry Levinson.
Her commitment to the artistic and Cantorial professions is evident in her wide repertoire, which spans ancient and modern Jewish liturgy, traditional unaccompanied songs in Yiddish, and newly composed Yiddish and Hebrew songs that blend various musical styles.
