Jasper Techel was born 1987 in Lübeck northern Germany. At the age of 18 he decided to leave the comfortable small town life and headed for the big wide world, first starting with Peru, where he stayed for a year shooting his first international documentaries.
After 5 years of working in Cologne, where he learned the tools for his further career, he then began his studies in cinematography at the renowned German Film and Television Academy of Berlin (DFFB).
In addition to his work as a dop, Jasper developed a keen interest in light setting, which allowed him to gain extensive experience as electrician and gaffer. Through the combination of artistic as well as technical skills and abilities, he has a wide and diverse background.
He loves places like big cities with their richness in culture and people, as same as quiet and inspiring places in nature. When he is not shooting, you may quite often find him on the ocean windsurfing or turning the pottery wheel at home.
He never lost the influences from the beginning of his career he still loves the true and authentic moments when real people turn moments into magic, same as technical set ups that are in need of precise planning.
