Ros Horin recently received an OAM for her 40+ years of service as a documentary filmmaker and trailblazing independent theatre director. Ros graduated from the prestigious Drama Centre London and directed productions for most major Australian theatre companies.
As Artistic Director of the Griffin Theatre for over 12 years, Ros established its reputation as a bold, contemporary Australian Writer's Theatre. She Developed and Directed over 30 new Australian plays there, some highlights being Kafka Dances, Clark In Sarajevo, Speaking in Tongues, which was later developed into the film, Lantana. Ros also wrote and Directed Through the Wire a ground breaking play about refugees and Australian Detention Centres; and The Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe about Violence against women, which had multiple theatrical seasons, including Riverside Theatre ,Belvoir Theatre, Sydney Opera House and touring to Southbank Theatre in London.
Ros has achieved international recognition as a Director with her first two feature documentaries The Baulkham Hills African Ladies Troupe premiering at SFF in 2016, then screening at MIFF shortly afterwards. It was followed by 10 International Film Festivals including Santa Barbara, FIPA tv, Durban and Mumbai Rosemary's Way premiered at SFF in 2020 and screened at Docs Without Borders (Award Winner),Depth Of Field (Award Winner), Human Rights & Arts Film Festival, Sebastopol, and Japan International Film Festival among others. Both of these films were also screened by SBS
Welcome to Yiddishland, Written/Directed and Co-produced by Ros (Producer Jeff Daniels) premiered at SFF in June 2024. It will have a theatrical release in November as part of JIFF 2024.
